hBase becoming own project

 Quick note:

hBase is hadoop’s answer to google’s big table — it is a massively parallel, distributed database. It’s now being promoted to its own project (on the same level as hadoop).

This is totally cool, and as the tools around hdfs and hBase improve we’ll see a whole generation of new startups built around these frameworks — apart from Yahoo, Powerset, a semantic search engine is currently (probably) the biggest user and contributer to Hadoop — via Michael Stack (aka st.ack) who used to be at the Internet Archive.

Stay tuned for more.
